Pain in the neck

The phrase that shows up as a title of this post is commonly used for something else.  However, I literally have been suffering from massive pain in my rear right neck legion for 4 days now.  Since last Friday, my neck has been stiff and basically not allowing me to function normally at all.  I can't turn my head, lie down, or do anything much at all.

Of course, the life has to go on and I have been working as much as I can.  World does not wait for me to feel better...  For the first time, I was able to sneak in a few hours of sleep last night though which is a good sign.  I'm hopped on Alleve and hoping this will all be better by this weekend.  Not that I have anything special going on for my birthday weekend. Matter of fact, I will be working all weekend at a client location.  How awesome is that?

But speaking of a birthday, perhaps I will treat me to a new guitar.  Yet again.  :)

My take on various recent events

  • USC loses its 2004 BCS Championship
I don't know for sure if Reggie Bush was the only athlete that school year or in the entire country that was involved in such incident.  However, it is the only incident on behalf of USC for that year that came to surface, so much blame goes to him.  Thanks to wrongdoings of one athlete, now the entire year of hard work, glory and pride all disappear for everyone who was involved for that championship run.  Shame.
  • 2011 WWDC Keynote
I saw many promising things from the keynote yesterday.  As usual, I must wonder how the company, Apple, will proceed once Steve leaves his reign.  So much magic and guidance dicated by him directly, I fear the days of the company perhaps losing its vision in defining new standards in technology.  It is clear, based on historic events as well as diretives for the future that we know, Apple is a leader who is willing to take initiatives to define how technology will be embedded into our lives.  They are at forefront leaving competitors in the dust.  I am very excited to see much of their focus is on "user experience" rather than other impervious matters.

The Mail app overhaul looks great.  I don't think I will be using Sparrow much after Lion becomes available.  Matter of fact, I don't think I will be using Outlook 2011 for Mac any longer either.

Twitter integration must be a welcome news for heavy duty Twitter users.  I tweet perhaps 2 to 5 a day and can already see how things would be so much easier.

The new Camera app for iOS 5 looks awesome as well.  It looks like it will either surpass or at least close gap on Camera+ app.

Whether Apple's vision is correct or not, the cloud is obviously the future.  Privacy and security comes to my mind as something that will have to be rock solid.  They are taking the lead and will people follow?

Innovation and reaction to user base clearly show that Apple is cut from a different mold compared to others.

I hate Safari on my Mac.  A few features shown like Reader app plus Read Later feature really tempt me.  If it's stable enough, will I jump ship from Chrome and move back to Safari?

  • Arnold
How quickly can a man's legacy take a tumble?  Things are unraveling and there appears to be no end.

  • Netflix
I have recently rediscovered Netflix on my iPad and just can't say enough about how awesome it is.

  • AT&T data cap
With inevitable future like storage on cloud and constant data consumption like Netflix just to name a few, AT&T's data cap, 150gb for DSL and 250gb for U-verse, is not justified no matter what bullshit reasons they come up with.  I consider AT&T still to be one of the prominent 5 worst companies.

  • Miami Heat
It's laughable how quickly people jump on the bandwagon just as quickly jumping off the bus on Heat, LeBron, and everything else that goes with 2010/2011 Miami Heat.

  • Dodgers
Dear McCourts, please sell the team to someone who is capable of and give the fans a team back that we all can cheer for again.  You swallowed more than you can chew, and now you are vomitting all over the fanbase.

Backyard guests

Normally my backyard is reserved for weekly gardener visits and my bullie to go poop...  A few days ago, I noticed a small "family" roaming the backyard and thought it was really cute.

Today, they returned and I took a few pictures of them.  I love how the mommy bird is always ushering the little ones.  Little guys are no bigger than a bottle of an eye drop.

And went the 3 day weekend

Well the long 3 day Memorial day weekend is over.  Had a whole bunch of people over Sunday and did a BBQ.  The wind was so strong, it was terribly difficult to cook up anything without being able to keep the flames in check.

Tomorrow I must return to work and face the reality again.  So I march on.

diabetes update

It has now been a bit more than a month since things became official about me being diabetic.  Not liking the doctor I saw too much, I went to another doctor last Friday and discussed what's going on.  It was reassuring to hear that things that I'm doing and consequently not doing all are making progress.  Lately I have consistently registered 120s, 130s, and at the worst 140s in glucose reading.

143

I realize that is still high but considering how "high" my numbers were prior to watching my diet etc., this is a tremendous improvement.

What I can't get used to is how my vision changes daily basis.  As sugar level goes down in my blood, apparently it changes pressure in my eyes which now has been fluctuating for a bit.  The eye doctor said that it was normal and that we would be seeing each other often until my vision settles down.  I was thinking all this time that my eyes were getting bad but in reality, my sugar level was just going up...

I also had a mini cheat day last Friday just to save me from going insane. Not able to eat what I want is somewhat taking a toll mentally.  I got another blood test and hemoglobin check in 2 months.  A long road ahead to being better but one step at a time...

end of innocense for mac

well we all knew that macs were vulnerable to exploits, perhaps not as bad as pc's...  there was just no reason for malware authors to write anything to target such a small demographic of users using mac platform as there would be no payload.

those days are approaching end if not already ended.  the latest issue with the mac defender brings up a very serious case in point.  the earlier version of this threat required you to type in an administrator login credential to get the machine to be infected.  but now the newer generation of itself has improved(?) where it can infect the target without such intervention.

it doesn't hurt to be safe and protect your mac now.

Yet another damage...

Wife's BMW lease ends in mere 3 months. It has suffered yet another damage with so little time left for it to go. This time. Crack in the front windshield.
